Children's Art Week
At the beginning of July, schools and communities around the country celebrate Children’s Art Week. This nationally recognized event encourages children of all ages to get inspired and create!
Children’s Art Week was originally started by Engage, the National Association for Gallery Education. Engage encourages children to explore different mediums and find out what art means to them.
In the upcoming weeks, children will be able to get involved with the celebrations by finding local clubs and workshops as well as by going online and finding challenges and resources to create independently.
Schools can also get into the spirit of the occasion by inviting local artists in for educational workshops, as well as showcasing pupils’ work in special art assemblies. Children could also start new art projects, and older year groups could learn more about the various ways that we experience art and try out new and exciting mediums.
Junior Jam workshops offer children opportunities to explore various types of art and unleash their creativity. This term, KS2 has been developing their design skills by creating adverts and websites as part of our iCSI workshops. Using iPads, the children have been drawing and painting their designs. Through these tasks, they have been learning about colour theory and form and engaging with the principles of art.
Meanwhile, KS1 pupils have been exploring the world of filmmaking and animation by plotting and creating short films. They have also been leaning about camera angles, editing photographs and putting their design skills to the test by coming up with ideas and diagrams of the technologies of the future!
This week, we will be appreciating the art around us, and keeping creativity at the center of all we do!
