Sports Day!

As the Summer Term draws to a close, schools everywhere will be preparing for Sports Day!

Sports Day is a valued tradition in the UK, originating from the Victorian Era. During this time, people started to consider how important physical exercise is to our overall health and wellbeing and children were encouraged to get moving.

Today, Sports Day is a day for the children to compete in various sporting events and celebrate their friends’ achievements – fostering team spirit while keeping fit.

At Junior Jam, we aim to support children with developing their PE skills through our sports workshops, introducing KS1 and KS2 children to many different exercises and new sports.

This Summer term is all about Athletics – the perfect preparation for Sports Day!

Children taking part in our workshops will have the opportunity to develop skills in all the core areas of track and field disciplines. They will learn the techniques of running, jumping and throwing, and will be introduced to new, exciting equipment such as hurdles, batons and foam throwing javelins.

To tell us a little bit more about what goes on in our Sports workshops, here are a few words from our talented PE Instructors:

‘This half term I have been getting the children in my classes ready for all their races including sprints and relays. This week to add some extra fun we will be doing javelin and discus throw for those events too if the school does these events.’

Ben, PE Instructor.

‘I have been doing athletics this term and putting a lot of stress on knowing who Jonathan Edwards, Colin Jackson, Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill are. I’ve also been encouraging children to watch the Olympics in a couple of weeks pretty much every athletics lesson.’

Dagmara, PE Instructor.
